Dr. Chen is an NIH-funded investigator who has conducted survey research on adolescent substance use and dependence, and clinical trials to investigate the clinical effectiveness of a Chinese energy therapy for osteoarthritis and cocaine addiction. He currently works on several NIH-funded research projects and the application studies of bio-energy therapy and self-help methods for addiction, arthritis, cancer and other health conditions. He is president and a founder of the nonprofit World Institute for Self Healing, Inc. He was an Associate Professor of psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, until assuming his new post at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2006.
