Preconference Workshops require separate registration fees and are also open to the public.

4:00-7:00 p.m.
Nan Lu, OMD
TCM: Medicine, Miracles and Modern Health Care
Traditional Chinese medicine is a whole system of medicine with a unique philosophy built on the observation of natural law, distinct theories on the nature of the human body and specific treatment modalities. Dr. Lu explores the ancient concept of Qi, the vital life force that animates and informs all things; meridian theory, the pathways through which Qi flows to regulate the body's energy functions; the Yin/Yang theory of complementary and interpenetrating energies that allow the body to return to harmony; Five-Element theory, which uses correspondences in nature to understand how Universal laws affect the human body; and the TCM understanding of the inseparable nature of emotions and health and how the body, mind, and spirit function together. Dr. Lu will challenge your idea of health, healing, your worldview and your view of yourself. Accept the challenge!

6:00-10:00 p.m.
Michael Taromina, Esq.
Risk Management: Liability and Professional Responsibility in CAM
(Satisfies NCCAOM Requirement for four hours in ethics.)
The expansion of traditional Chinese medicine into America's health-care system has produced unique concerns of risk, liability and professional responsibility. CAM practitioners and administrators seeking to fulfill their potential for long-term financial success need to recognize the legal and ethical issues found in collaborative medicine settings and know how to comply with applicable state and national codes, laws and regulations. Join Michael Taromina, Esq., for a penetrating and sobering look at this new territory. Mr. Taromina is a member of the Review and Disciplinary Committee for NCCAOM and a leading legal expert on health-care law, ethics, practice management and professional responsibility. He provides practical and practicable information for participants and equips them with a roadmap of sound risk-management strategies that will ensure compliance, avoid costly litigation and disciplinary actions while maintaining a profitable business model.
